Magnetico Cultural Association, a leading ICT organization in Sicily, announces the launch of Overlay, its new operational spin-off based in Tunisia. Overlay is the natural evolution of the Magnetico model beyond Italy’s borders, with the ambitious goal of building a “skills bridge” and creating a positive economic and social impact on both sides of the Mediterranean.
Transforming Offshoring into Ethical Collaboration
Overlay is rooted in a simple intuition aligned with Magnetico’s mission: Sicily and Tunisia share similar challenges—particularly the need to stop the emigration of qualified young people and create stable jobs at home.
The project aims to overturn the traditional narrative of outsourcing by adopting a model of Transparent and Ethical Nearshoring —an approach designed to create a genuine win-win:
- Generation of Value: Tunisia’s economic efficiency makes it possible to create a sustainable margin on nearshore activities (such as NOC/SOC operations and Cybersecurity).
- Reinvestment in Sicily: This margin is "brought back" and reinvested to fund new employment opportunities and the launch of new business lines in Sicily, with a special focus on the island's inland areas.
- Stability and Growth for Tunisia: Through partnerships with local universities, young Tunisian talents gain stable employment, continuous professional development, and direct access to the European ICT market.
Overlay doesn't take away jobs; it creates them where they didn't exist and redistributes them where they are needed.
The Mediterranean as a Technology Hub
“With Overlay, the Mediterranean is no longer just a boundary—it becomes a natural technological hub,” says Andrea Riccardo Virdi, President of Magnetico. “We aim to be the first cornerstone of an ecosystem that creates jobs, training, dignity, and a shared future. It’s a model to be exported, a bridge that connects, and a new way of doing business.”
The spin-off is already operational in Tunis, with activities starting on November 10, 2025.
